(CFS) wird h\u00e4ufig bei Tumorpatienten, im Zusammenhang mit <em>Burnout<\/em> und posttraumatischen St\u00f6rungen, bei chronischen und allergischen Krankheiten und neuerdings auch als Folge einer schweren COVID-19-Erkrankung (Long-COVID-Syndrom, LCS) beobachtet. Eine zentrale Ursache f\u00fcr das CFS\/LCS ist die Sch\u00e4digung von Mitochondrien. Verantwortlich hierf\u00fcr sind stressgenerierte reaktive Sauerstoffradikale, welche Enzyme der mitochondrialen Atmungskette funktionsunt\u00fcchtig machen, einen zellul\u00e4ren Sauerstoff- und Energiemangel induzieren und zu messbarer Hypoxie und ATP-Unterversorgung f\u00fchren. Je nach Intensit\u00e4t und Dauer der zellul\u00e4ren Stressbelastung kommt es zu reversiblen und auch irreversiblen Sch\u00e4den (leichtes CFS\/LCS bis zum weitgehenden Verlust der Leistungsunf\u00e4higkeit).
